It was a fortunate coincidence that led Alfio, born in Puntalazzo, a small village on the slopes of Etna, to return to his native Sicily: the possibility of purchasing an ancient stone grinding mill at the foot of Mount Etna to make it become a place where tradition and history, culture and the flavours from the past could come back to life by creating a farmstead that from the start was particular in all its aspects.
The love for his land, the desire to realize a dream that he had cultivated since he was a boy and to make his contribution to creating jobs in his homeland, great enthusiasm combined with a pinch of healthy madness and the precious support of his entire family, each with their own particular “knowledge” and especially his daughter Paola, an architect: these are the things that made it possible to restore this ancient grinding mill, at the time in ruins, and transform it into a farmhouse for rural tourism, the “La pietra antica O’ munti”.
Today, between the walls and the lava stone floor, in the imposing presence of the centuries-old grinding stone, the smells and flavours of the past are revived, managed with skill, commitment and great authenticity by all of us: each with his own history and experience, made precious by the ancient knowledge handed down with care and love by our most special teachers, our mothers and our grandmothers.

“In the early 1800s, in Puntalazzo, in Mascali County, and more precisely on a hill behind the town called “O’ munti”, the inhabitants built a large millstone which was, at the same time, a place for work, leisure and meeting and, therefore, immediately elected as a symbol of the village of Puntalazzo and its population.”
In love with our land, its history and its people, its aromas and flavours, we wanted to revive the ancient millstone of Puntalazzo, between Etna (UNESCO heritage) and Taormina, transforming it into the ”La pietra antica O’ munti”, to bring back to life the ancient traditions and re-propose them today in a setting that has been restored in full respect of the historical structure, enhancing both the internal and external areas so as to be able to welcome our guests, lovers of the peace and quiet of rural tourism, nature, landscapes and the authentic flavours of Sicily.

You can visit the farm, walking along the paths in the 4000 m² of the luscious green estate of “La pietra antica O’ munti” and, from the panoramic terraces of the restaurant and the gardens as a whole, as well as from the fabulous pool terrace, you can enjoy the landscape that embraces the horizon from the sea of Taormina to the Nebrodi Mountains to the coast of Calabria and on to the Augusta coast.
The “La pietra antica O’ munti” demonstrates a marked sensitivity towards clean energy with the installation of solar panels.
